Bluejays have been rather scarce around here for several years. They certainly are beautiful, but so mean!! I'm glad they're scarce now!

It's beautiful. The ones around here have more blue than that one does. I wonder if there are different types of blue jays.

I've never seen a Baltimore Oriole! What a beauty!! Do they stay around all year, Susa?

They come early in the spring and drink out of the hummingbird feeder and move on within a week or two unless I put out grape jelly. Then I can keep them for maybe 2 months. In the middle of the summer I will get tired of putting out the grape jelly and not seeing a bird.

Re: Birds at my house

Beautiful pictures of the Hairy Woodpecker at the feeder, I had one or two of them but I rarely saw them. I had mostly the smaller Downey.

I have seen the Boat tailed Grackle in my yard but most of them are the Common Grackle like yours.

Guess their stealing is genetic now, ya think?

That one looks very young.

The one today stood right up at the door and played with the cats. That is when I got the camera. I think it has to be young. It will probably also be short lived if it doesn't get some fear.

Re: Birds at my house

I'll bet all have heard the espression "S/he eats like a bird!"

Well, I thought it meant that they ate very little! The birds at my feeders eat like pigs! Gosh, it's amazing how much they eat!

Yours, Susa?

Yes! Mine are eating like little pigs, especially the peanuts and suet. However, the sunflower seeds, grape jelly and hummingbird syrup is going quickly too. That will all slow down once the babies are raised. Before it slows down all of the babies will be out there too! I love seeing the babies that have just barely learned to fly.

First thing this morning, 10 starlings were out there stuffing themselves! The smaller, pretty birds stayed away! :angry

Is there a way to keep the bullies away?

I just wish they would all come and enjoy - not ward the little ones away.

All videos and still pictures are wonderful, thanks for sharing, Susa.

I believe the bird in the last still pics might be an adult female House Finch.
