Libriomancer, by Jim C. Hines

It arrived yesterday, and I started reading it right away. The main character, Isaac Vainio, is a libriomancer, someone who can use magic to reach into a book and pull out something created in it. It's a member of a group of people who can do this and who use their abilities to protect others from magic gone wrong.

In this book, however, Isaac has been retired because he made a great mistake. And then he's attacked by vampires and drawn into a huge fight that threatens to break any protections on magic and bring desaster to the world.

Anyway, it's a fun read. And you might like Smudge, the fire spider that is his personal pet. (Yep, the spider from Goblin Quest.)

I'm reading it for a second time now. I always do that ... silly me.

I totally love it. I love Jim's humor, how he is totally non-conceited (he described himself as "some midlist hack" in one place), and how he just has fun with his tales.

Yes, I had to think of Inkheart, as well. But it's very different, more fantasy-like.

(And there is no exchange with a world inside the book.)

This is a series I want in print. So I'm still waiting for the trade paperback for "Codex Born".

*sigh*

And I just saw the cover for "Unbound" which is #3 in the series. Utterly sexy ...

Plus Jim is already writing on #4! emoticon

I'm very happy you like it!

I still have to read Codex Born. I've had it for more than half a year, but for some reason I can't start. The paperback is on my dinner table....

Jim is traditionally published, so telling him probably won't help. He can't fix the file.

If it were me - yes, I could tell Vern and upload a new file. Sadly, Amazon will only update the versions that already *are* on Kindles if the changes are "considerable". I find it amazing that they can do that. It happened to me twice now.

I will read Codex Born soon. It's just that these books are almost too exciting! Remember Isaac going to the Moon?
