Speaking of bikes. The other day news said that in north Finland (actually it was about Oulu which is closer to middle, but population-wise north) people use bikes much also during winter, but in capital area/south coast hardly at all.
I live about halfway, so here it's something between.
I guess it's that in proper snowy winter area it's easier and better to ride a bike than in wet slosh.

When we lived in an apartment, I hated lifting the lid of dumpsters. Yuck!

Now, we live in a rural area and haul our own trash to the landfill. We recycle glass, metal, plastic, cardboard, newspapers and magazines. It's a good thing we have a full size pickup because Hubby only likes to go about once a month with a full truck load. We have plastic trash cans in the garage for regular garbage, glass, plastic and metal and cardboard boxes for the different papers. We use a ground cedar, pine, corn cat litter which I scoop for poop to throw in the garbage and we toss the rest on a bank along the road into the woods where it decomposes over time. We don't have to put all that litter in the trash.

The lids of the big bins in the picture don't lift. They slide back, so it doesn't take a lot of effort.

Lucy, I think it's awesome that you're recycling so much.

When I see how much we have in one month, I can't bring myself to add all that to the landfill.

I still want to do a post on biker lanes, but I haven't been able to focus on that ...

Instead, I'm giving you a funny Easter custom, that is only happening in Northern Germany. At any rate, I never saw anything like this before moving to Kiel.

People put plastic eggs into bushes at their houses.

Here are a some:

And this one is my favorite:

I took all of those on my way home from work.

woohoo, I don`t think we do that here Firle, though I suspect that some people will hang some sort of eggs in trees and bushes..

Here, I think the favorite with the children is hunting for Easter Eggs..

People hang plastic eggs on bushes and trees here, too, but I have never done it myself.

I've always liked the way it looks, but I've just never done it.

I should try it some day. emoticon

I do know where I have a box of plastic eggs, so I really should do it today! emoticon

Thank you for taking the pictures! Thank you again for this thread.

We never did it outside but when we were little we had a collection of Styrofoam eggs that we decorated and my mother would pick up a small branch in the yard and bring it inside and we'd hang the eggs on that. Don't know if we've still got the eggs.

We had wooden eggs, and real ones that were blown out and painted by us kids.

I think my mom has them all. I have a small bunch of wooden ones, and I'm thinking of getting a branch and putting them on it.

HG: Thanks for sharing that.

I remembered there was someone there taking it to extremes, but ... so I'm glad you found it.

This would never work where I live, as there's way too much wind. It would break all the eggs. That tree must be in a sheltered area.

It's still very impressive. emoticon

I think the big tree full of colorful plastic eggs is over-doing it.

I love the smaller Easter egg bushes that Firle posted a lot better.

I really like the bushes in Firle's photos. Do they actually re-decorate that big tree every year?

I think so. I don't believe the eggs would survive a whole year outside.
