iron tablets?

any one taking these?
hubby,, deep sighs! was prescribed them some months ago, but stops taking them, till I have a "nag" cos they cause constipation.

I know, fruit, veggies, water... but he is very ,,,hmmm? conservative with his diet..

he does enjoy baked potatoes , so I guess that could be good? and baked beans.

just wondering if anyone else taking them..

I have never taken them. All I have ever heard about them is the constipation. Hopefully, someone with some experience will pop in. Could he add something like =sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1479049962&sr=8-6&keywords=fiber+supplement]THIS? My mother had to increase fiber and Benefiber is what I used for her. I put it in her morning coffee. She could not even detect it in there and it helped her out. She used it every morning.

Never had any experience with Iron tablets.
But my Dad has to use a certain pain medication that causes horrible constipation, so mom has been putting that same stuff SUSA showed you into Dad's Gatorade without his knowledge! emoticon

Re: iron tablets?

Yeah, iron tablets are infamous for causing that kind of problem.

One of the boasts of the Amway version was that they don't cause constipation. But you need to know someone in the system to get them. And they are more expensive than the simple ones, but are also much easier for the body to absorb. (I got that from an MD who used those for her patients if they couldn't deal with the normal ones.)

Anyway, it sounds as if you have a solution!

Re:

well Firle, I guess you know about our NHS system here! I am very unmedically minded, and what I have read is that one should be careful in taking unprescribed iron.

so thanks for this.. I will see how he goes when I get the Benefibre

we are being told to consult our pharmacies instead of going to our GP`s, as they are overworked, and NHS running out of money, yet, I have recently seen that our pharmacies get subsidies or grants or whatever they want to call them, from our Government, so if many people start to go to the pharmacies, I guess they will run out of money DUH! just letting off steam.

BTW [sign in to see URL] (or any fiber) is good for more than just [sign in to see URL] sure you drink plenty of [sign in to see URL] fiber works better with more water.
]HERE is a link to the Benefiber site that gives the pros and cons (being without enough water they can CAUSE constipation)...it's a short but good read.
