That is an insane amount of snow.

Thank you for the diagram, that does help to understand what's going on with the roof. I can also see that it's difficult to avoid with that kind of set-up. Removing the gutters looks like the only real option - which of course isn't available right now.

SUSA...the candle worked! Well, in the normal round about way.
Not for us, but for Mom and [sign in to see URL] that means it SPARES us that work!
Mom ran into a disabled Veteran, at therapy. And her therapist gave him glowing reports.
[sign in to see URL] and Dad had this guy out to snow blow their driveway and a path out to Dad's shop. NOW he can go out there and start a fire in his woodstove, and with aluminum [sign in to see URL] should get warm enough to have that 3 feet of snow slide off!
[sign in to see URL] is only half the story. So this Vet, used to work for landscaping company in [sign in to see URL] he calls them, and asks if they do roof shoveling in Payette. [sign in to see URL] were ON Mom and Dad's Roof for 4 hours, 3 guys on [sign in to see URL] they shoveled ALL of Mom and Dad's modular homes [sign in to see URL] the covered patio, that also extends over 3 separate storage [sign in to see URL] cleaned off the pump house roof.
SO YOU [sign in to see URL] saved us hours worth of work, and worry! And now we can concentrate on our house! I called the number for the landscaping people in Boise and left a message for them to do our roof! [sign in to see URL] have not got back yet. They may be very [sign in to see URL] did it because they did a favor for that [sign in to see URL] knows. I'm just glad they DID THAT. We don't have to worry about Mom and Dad's house caving in! emoticon
Just ours! emoticon

JUST SOME PRESS RELEASES THE LAST FEW WEEKS

Flooding dangers along Snake River in Payette and Washington Counties prompt request for technical assistance

Idaho Office of Emergency Management press release Jan 21, 2017

BOISE — On behalf of both Payette and Washington Counties the Idaho Office of Emergency Management has requested technical assistance from the US Army Corps of Engineers to help with flooding mitigation efforts along the Snake River. Areas of concern for flooding include the towns of Weiser (Washington County) and Payette and Fruitland (Payette County).

Both counties have expressed concern for low-lying areas along the Snake River that could significantly endanger community infrastructure. Issues of concern also include sections of I-84, Highway 52 and Highway 95. The technical assistance request includes the following:

• Contingency planning for expert analysis to determine the potential risks to lives and property and immediate ways to protect both

• Hydraulic, hydrologic or geotechnical analysis to identify areas of potential flows or flash flooding that may threaten lives or property or impede evacuation routes

• Risk assessment to identify potential advance warning systems.

The January 2017 time frame requested allows jurisdictional personnel to apply the provided training and planning to the most critical sites, thereby improving their mitigation efforts in advance of further flooding.

The Idaho Emergency Operations Center (IDEOC) remains activated at Level 1 due to winter storm hazards throughout the state. Ada, Canyon, Cassia, Custer, Gem, Owyhee, Payette, and Washington Counties have disaster declarations currently in effect.

The Idaho Office of Emergency Management is a Division of the Idaho Military Division. The services we provide are to facilitate emergency management in Idaho, and to assist neighboring states. The men and women of this Division are dedicated to their mission of protecting the lives and property of the people of Idaho, as well as preserving the environmental and the economic health of Idaho.

Herd of 50 antelope found dead in Payette, Idaho

News Regional Top Stories January 20, 2017

Payette, Idaho. – 50 pronghorn antelope were found dead in the town of Payette, Idaho—the apparent victims of a toxic shrub.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game said the pronghorn were reported early Tuesday afternoon. When conservation officers arrived, they found 50 dead antelope in one large group.

After an investigation into the cause of the deaths, it was confirmed the cause was due to the consumption of toxic Japanese yew. “All four animals were in good body condition, but with congested lungs and kidneys,” Drew noted. “All had Japanese yew twigs and needles in their esophagus and rumen; cause of death was yew toxicity.”

IDFW said frigid winter temperatures are driving big game animals to lower elevations where they’re more likely to encounter more urbanized areas with more diverse plant species—including toxic plants.

Japanese yew is a common landscaping shrub, and its soft waxy needles are deadly to a number of species, including humans.

The antelope deaths come less than a week after 30 pronghorn were killed while trying to cross Lake Wolcott in southern Idaho.

IDFW said eight elk died in the Boise foothills after feeding on Japanese yew plants roughly two weeks ago.

Officials with IDFW wrote, “Because of the risk to big game animals, the department urges homeowners to inventory their property and remove and landfill any Japanese yew that might be growing at their residence. Alternatively, the plants can be wrapped with burlap to prevent access by big game animals.”

Snow forces roof collapses at Treasure Valley onion plants

Severe weather and snow buildup has caused the roofs of about 18 onion storage and packing facilities to collapse in southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon. Roof collapses in the Treasure Valley have wiped out 25 percent of the region's total onion processing capacity, leading to soaring onion prices, The Capital Press reported.

Gov. Otter signs disaster declaration for Washington County
The declaration ensures that all necessary state resources will be made available for recovery efforts.

Washington County is the eighth Idaho county to receive a disaster declaration due to this winter's historic snowfall. The other counties are: Ada, Canyon, Cassia, Custer, Gem, Owyhee, and Payette.

Goodness, Queeny, those collapses are tragic. Amazing that only one person got hurt... but this will ruin businesses...

And the antelope story broke my heart. emoticon
Not sure if those yew trees actually are from Japan, but European Yew is also poisonous and horses and cows will eat it and die. That's why it used to grow in cemetaries only. Those were walled in in the Middle Ages - so people planted yew trees there, because they needed the wood for longbows but also wanted to protect their lifestock. It became a tradition which has lived on long after longbows lost their usefulness.

Love your birds! At least now they appreciate your seeds. But honesty... I do hope it melts soon, gradually and with optimal timing so the melt doesn't cause floods!

Queeny, thank you for posting all those snow pictures. It seems amazing that nobody has been very seriously injured with all the collapses. I'm sure the man with a broken leg and pelvis thinks it is serious, but you know what I mean.

I did not look at the dead antelope, that is just too sad.

I enjoy seeing your cats. Misty looks a lot like the Ashes we used to have.

LUCY....awwww, so your furkid Ashes was a grey one?
I'm sure that guy does think it's serious, then [sign in to see URL] he knows it could have been way more serious. The fire crew chief that was interviewed on the news said..."the BBQ under that carport is what saved his life. It took them like 45 minutes to pull him free. AND in that time the BBQ was holding the carport debris off his head and chest, keeping him from being crushed and giving him a pocket to breath from".... emoticon

Sorry about the quality of these photos. It's a very dark, deary [sign in to see URL] fog out there and this was through my living room window. That snow out there now, is another 3-4 feet on top of the 3 or so feet we actually had on the ground. That came off the roof over the living [sign in to see URL] NOW, the squirrels can reach the bird feeders! I need to get out there and hopefully remove at least 3-4 feet of snow from beneath my feeders!

Oh, Wow!!!! These are great pictures! I am glad that your squirrel says grace before eating. Good boy! LOL You have beautiful, fat squirrels, unlike my little red guys. That snow is just unbelievable! It really shows the depth in that walkway picture and the bird feeder pictures.

[sign in to see URL] those squirrels are smart. It did not take them long to figure out those feeders were lower.

Probably a true Christian Squirrel! emoticon

I have a couple more of the Northern Flickers.
Again, not very good due to horrible lighting. Everything is blurring [sign in to see URL]'s all a grey white..

I am very glad that you have the flickers!

Is there any chance you can get to the feeders using the snow blower? Or is it too deep for that?

Cute squirrels. emoticon

And do you know that you're saying "I love you" in sign alphabet there? emoticon

I'm so glad your roof got shovelled, but of course, all that snow is now piled around your house... poor Christmas ornaments. I hope they survived.
