Ancestry.com

Having a ball searching for my family! My tree is growing in leaps and bounds! I got my DNA results back a while ago. This is what they discovered:
Europe West 49%
Ireland 22%
Great Britain 12%
Scandinavia 9%
Low Confidence Region
Italy/Greece 3%
Iberian Peninsula 2%: Asia was also 2%

Mary, I agree! It is a lot of fun! You and I have a similar breakdown of where our ancestor's came from. I did recently find out that my Iberian Peninsula people were Sephardic Jews in Spain. I found that out at Family Tree DNA.

I agree that it is fun, too!

Mary, did you get lots of cousin matches?

Are your ethnicity estimates what you would expect from what you know about your ancestors?

Susa, how do you get info from Family Tree DNA? Do you take your ancestry results over to there?

My ethnicity estimates are from similar regions, too. Here are my estimates:

Europe 100%

Ireland 32%
Italy/Greece 26%
Scandinavia 22%
Great Britain 8%
Europe West 7%
Iberian Peninsula 5%

Yes! I uploaded my Ancestry DNA to Family Tree DNA. It cost me, but I forget how much. I know I got it on sale. It costs a lot more to do Family Tree DNA. However, you get more for your money if you do their test, but I didn't really want to get too involved there.

Here are my results both places:

They use different algorithms for interpreting DNA. Family Tree DNA seems to be more in depth.

Re: Re:

Susa, I don't quite understand.

So, does that mean that you just took your [sign in to see URL] saliva DNA test results and uploaded them to Family Tree DNA?

Does it mean that you did not actually do a DNA test with Family Tree DNA (saliva or otherwise), but you just uploaded your DNA test results from [sign in to see URL] to Family Tree DNA?

Thanks in advance for explaining it to me.

Yes! on everything you asked.

Sue, have you uploaded your results to [sign in to see URL] yet? That is the coolest place and it is free.

Re: Ancestry.com

Sue, I don't have but 2 1st cousins on the DNA match and I tried to message them but they have not been on Ancestry in a long while. I am finding 3rd and 4th cousins tho.

Susa, I may try that link that you [sign in to see URL] pretty cool. AND it is free! Do you find more matches of your DNA from there? I have wanted to look at the genealogy site here on Susa's too. Maybe when I have more time.

Yes! You do find more matches on GEDmatch. To do your DNA on GEDmatch, you need to download your DNA from Ancestry first. Then go to GEDmatch and upload, what you downloaded.
