Re: Depression

Hang in there, Nanny. You need to give the 5HTP more time and you need to talk to your doctor. I don't trust prescription antidepressants, I would first try exercise along with the highest dose of 5HTP that you can tolerate.

Whatever you do, don't expect instant results. Something has gotten you out of kilter and it is going to take time to get you back to your old healthy self.

Meanwhile, we are here for you. emoticon

Maybe that is why so many people, myself included feel better when we go for a walk, or play in the garden.

Re: Depression

It's a good link, but it doesn't mention Vitamin K which you should take if you supplement Vit. D. Vit. K is key to actually getting calcium back into the bones, and it prevents any arterial buildup of calcium.

Living as far north as I do, sunlight cannot trigger Vit. D production for me from September to April. So I supplement in fairly high doses.

Also, dairy is "fortified" with Vit. D in the US, but I doubt it is in Europe. I know it isn't in Germany. So dairy is most likely not a source of Vit. D over here.

And I'm sorry. Most light boxes do not produce enough UVB to trigger Vit. D production in the skin, and solariums usually only use UVA light which turns the skin brown but doesn't trigger Vit. D production, either. Light boxes do help with depression because of the light, but that's all.

Re:

I take Vitamin D3.... thanks for this Lucy, will go back and read it a little more slowly

so doc has given me a different/better bladder pill, hopefull that will allow me to sleep once it takes effect, I think my sleep issue has been going for years now and could have affected me a lot.. and the doc also gave me a different/better nasal spray, since bad head cold some weeks back, I have not felt good. and loss of appetite is worrying for me.. yesterday I forgot to eat! ME! no way,, I have always loved my food and can only remember losing my appetite once when I was in bed with flu for 2 weeks..

so I actually felt a little brighter more my old self this am. we have been to one of our local shops, so now quite tired, so I am going to have to watch that I don`t go too energetic like and over do it... we shall see.

I shall keep on with the 5 HTP also, (thanks Susan for introducing me to that) I told the doc I am taking it, and she made no comment.

Good Nanny! I am glad you told your doctor about 5 HTP. That is taken care of and you are right, stick with it, but up it to 300mg.

It sounds like things went well with your doctor. Did you talk about depression?
