Several years ago I bought a couple of them for my son and daughter-in-law. I don't remember hearing what they thought of them.

I am no help, Nanny.

It also seems that about 30 years ago I had one. I can't remember much about it.

I hope others chime in.

Unfortunately, I can't help, either. Most of them are plundered from the wild, so I don't buy them.

But - if they make you happy, get one!

oh Firle, I didn`t know that.. but then isn`t most EVERYTHING that we humans touch, plundered,? just saying... that is me, fed up with what the human race does.

I saw a programme on our tv. that suggested they sort of "threw" babies out, these air plants, so I guess we plundered them in the first place and now
sort of domesticate them?

I am really looking for some interest to fill the huge hole that Bridie and Freddie have left... so I like plants and nature, can`t think of much else to explore

*sending lots and lots of hugs*

I didn't know you lost Bridie, too. Yes, those are big holes to fill. Get some plants that make you happy and that you can fuss over. It's quite possible they are being bred now.

Re: Air plants

I used to have some when we lived in San [sign in to see URL] was almost 33 years ago.
I had them living on a huge piece of driftwood we found at the beach, inside all the nooks and crannies.
They were easy to [sign in to see URL] needed to "mist" them once in a while to grow them.
I love [sign in to see URL] and out. I have them hanging all over this house. I have to hang them in planters from the ceiling so my cats do not eat them! emoticon
My favorite hanging ones are Philodendron....
]Here......
Easy to grow in pretty much any light except for total [sign in to see URL] low light they are all green. The more the light, (sunshine) they get, the more white streaks they get.
It is hard to fill those holes in your heart. But filling your time with things you love to do, makes it easier to bare. emoticon

Thanks Queeny, I have saved that link for more houseplants.

well I didn`t phrase that very well , did I? nothing will fill the hole, I don`t like to think of it as a hole ,,I am very confused about it all at the moment

it is what to do with myself now,, that is what I have to fill.

thanks for the link Queeny, I have taken a photo of the plants we have recently got,, will try to post it here.

And you can also email pictures to me, Nanny. Not that I want this to be a competition, but you have choices. Either Queeny or I will host them for you.

Yes, you have to find new ways of living your life. Which means trying out new things. Some may work, some won't. But you will find joy again, I promise. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You have lovely plants. emoticon

Re: Air plants

Nanny, I have several air plants. I suppose, as with all plants originally, they may have been plundered. But today they are mostly propagated in nurseries.

This is where I ordered my air plants. ]LINK

I am very sad that you have lost two beloved family members. I know you are feeling very down about that. Hopefully, some new plants will cheer you a little. emoticon

They are fun to have. I like to make little arrangements with them. They look best in multiples because most of them are pretty small. I like them glued to gnarly pieces of wood. I have to make it a point to soak them in water once a week to keep them looking good.

One with a scent, would be way cool Nanny. emoticon

Lucy, I had mine glued on a piece of neat driftwood I found on the beach and I would just mist them most of the time, then a few times a year I would soak the whole [sign in to see URL] and driftwood, in the bathtub for good 10 minutes and then leave it in there, to drain and dry before putting it back on the wall, in the 'fishing net' I had hanging above our fish tank.
