Gall stones anyone?

looking here seems I am the only one with health queries..

hmmm?

so hubby been having pain for months now, seen several different docs, and had scan at the hospital etc.

now doc says could be gall stones!

and diet seems to affect it, the only dietary advice she has given him is not too much milk in his tea.

I have looked online and can`t find much there either

just wondering if anyone here has any experience of this...

HI [sign in to see URL] don't have experience, but my Mother does. And I was not in the house the years she had her problems. She had the most common kind of Gallstones, "Cholesterol" and it was from eating to fat a diet.
Here is a good link to read about the different types.
]MAYO CLINIC GALLSTONES LINK

Every time she got them, her's would progress into Inflammation of the gallbladder. And so after a few years she had the Gallbladder surgery.
Her pain would get so intense, she would pass out from the pain. Once she fell, hitting her head on the bathtub. After that incident, they decided to operate....

Re:

I have had gallbladder issues. What I had to cut back on was fat. That would match with too much milk in his tea, probably. My issues began when I was putting cream on my cereal many years ago.

quote:

Although diet doesn't directly cause gallbladder problems -- and it won't cure them -- watching what you eat and keeping a healthy weight might help you prevent gallstones from forming and avoid some discomfort if you do develop gallstones.

Diet and Gallstone Risk

A number of risk factors contribute to the formation of gallstones, including a family history of gallstones and gender. Women are twice as likely as men to develop them. Body weight is also a factor; the risk of gallstones is higher in people who are overweight and obese.

Diets that are high in fat and cholesterol and low in fiber appear to play a role. "There's a lot of things you can't change in that list, but you can certainly influence your diet," says F. Taylor Wootton III, MD, clinical counselor, associate professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association governing board.

Changing your diet won't get rid of gallstones that are already there, but eating a healthy, balanced variety of nutrients and limiting the amount of saturated fats and cholesterol-heavy foods you eat may help ease your symptoms.

Try to avoid or limit these high-fat foods in your diet:

Fried foods
Highly processed foods (doughnuts, pie, cookies)
Whole-milk dairy products (cheese, ice cream, butter)
Fatty red meat

Also steer clear of very low-calorie diets. If you are overweight, aim for a gradual weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week by sticking to a healthy, well-balanced diet and getting regular exercise. Always diet under your doctor's supervision.

#1]Article HERE

I simply cut out fats, in any form, and still today that is part of the solution for my present diarrhea. To my knowledge, I never ended up with stones, but then I have not had another gallbladder test since 30 some years ago.

*hugs*

It might be a simple as changing to low-fat milk in his tea.

But yes, the usual way to reduce trouble from gallstone is to reduce the amount of fat in the diet.

That's because gall is secreted to help digest fat, and if a gall stone blocks the tubes, this will cause the extra gall fluid to back up in the gallbladder - and into the liver. Very bad, and that's what causes the inflammation.

Now if there are stones, they can be removed, usually by an operation. In bad cases, the whole gallbladder will be removed - it's better to avoid that...

Queeny, I was thinking that you had said that your hubby's doctor put him on insulin shots quite a number of months ago.

I guess I was mistaken.

Of course, I hope that your hubby realizes that a permanent lifestyle change is necessary, not just a low carb "diet" that one goes on and then goes off when one has lost the "desired" amount of weight.

No, I believe it was when I [sign in to see URL] doctor threatened to put him on [sign in to see URL] 3 months ago, I believe.
He [sign in to see URL] Mother died when he was 7 from complications of Diabetes. His oldest brother had uncontrolled diabetes (possibly due to also being exposed to Agent Orange) and [sign in to see URL] his two older sisters, one younger sister and one younger brother all have diabetes.
But just cause he [sign in to see URL]'t mean he will do it. And I can harp on him all I want, it will just make us argue non stop, if he does not make up his mind, then there is nothing I can do.

I agree, Queeny. emoticon

(Queeny, how many siblings does your hubby have? I am sorry to hear that there is such a strong history of diabetes in his family. And, I am so sorry that he lost his mother when he was such a young boy.)

(Oh, and I've been meaning to ask you for a long time, but I keep forgetting to ask. Is hubby's surname of Robert pronounced like we say the first name Robert, or is the letter "t" silent, and Robert pronounced more like a French (?) name of "Ro-ber," with the long sound of the letter "o," and the accent on the second syllable, "ber?")
