GOOD FIRST DAY OF 2018!

So how was your New Years celebrations. We watched "The Force Awakens" in preparations for seeing the newest, "The Last Jedi" tomorrow!

Last night was fun. Fiesta Guadalajara is always a good place to go. Very upbeat and great food. Mom and Dad had a wonderful time, as well.

Good Morning World! I went to bed about 2 minutes after midnight. I watched a Christmas movie last night, that I had recorded a year ago. I think it is my favorite Christmas movie. It is "A Crown For Christmas". When I went to bed last night, the thermometer outside said -9. The high today is 7 with a windchill of -18. I don't know what all I will do today. I did not hear any fireworks last night! I just realized that!! I wonder if it was too cold.

I spent a good hour figuring out how to order dog licenses this morning. It just hit me that they were due! So, I ordered each one another 3 year license.

Lily pooped solid this morning, as she always does after Pepto Bismol. She was hungry, so I did feed her. We will see what the day brings for her.

Hi Queeny! I am glad you had a nice evening last night. Long ago, in my Mother Earth years, I named every cat Kitty, but they each had a different middle name. That way when I called "Here Kitty, Kitty!" I would know that they all answered to their name. LOL Lily is lively this morning and hungry. I hope things go through her well. I think she will not get any fancy treats, today, just dog biscuits.

Hi Sue! Congratulations for being first on this thread!!!! Happy New Year!

Lucy, Happy New Year to you, too!

Re: So tell me about your day ...2018

Happy New Year,
and happy Tuesday!

I was rather busy yesterday, so I didn't post. Good things happening.

New Year's Eve was busy, as well, with another family coming over (friends of my sis). We had both cheese fondue and raclette. The kids all went for the raclette grill.

Then the kids went to watch a Star Wars movie, and I got stuck with the other family's oldest, a daughter with some impairment, while the others talked among themselves. (I was a bit miffed to be honest, I had wanted some good, deep conversations.)

Midnight came, and some fireworks happened. None of us wanted any champagne, because we had some wine earlier. And after ten minutes of watching fireworks, it started to rain. Hard.

I think I was in bed by 1am. emoticon

Yesterday, I went to visit my former in-laws, and that was rather nice. My FiL really cares about me, he didn't want to let me go. My MiL has softened since I'm no longer married to her son. (*laughs*)

Then I drove on to my Dad's place, and I finally got to meet his partner's son. The DiL was sick in bed, however. I finally had a good, intelligent conversation with all of them, about religion, astronomy and geology, among other things. I have missed this soooo much.

My father's partner made dinner from their leftovers, and it was really yummy. I finally drove back to my sis at around 10pm.

Today, I'll shift over to my Dad's. I have already packed my suitcase. I may ask my sis to drive me over after posting. (And after letting my nephew choose smilies one last time.)

Susa: Woah, that's COLD.

I hope that Lily is feeling better today. *sending hugs to her and you*

Queeny: Glad you had a great time at Fiesta Guadalajara. It's always great if you don't have to cook and clean afterwards!

Modern LED light bulbs won't work to heat a room, however. I like your parent's trick, though.

Mary: Glad you had a good time with your sister! And yay for a good vacation. Signing up for computer lessons is a very good idea!

OhioSue: I don't know the details of the jobs yet. However, they will be admin jobs in a research facility, considering the pay rate. I need to look them up on the University site, will do that when I get home. (All my application files are on my computer at home.)

Lucy: Yay for putting everything away!

Your cooking sounds delicious! And I bet the moth was happy to get away from Blacky. How is Blacky doing?

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Now I have to arrange for transport to my Dad's, and see when is a good time. And of course, I'll ask my nephew if he wants to post some smilies.
 emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'll try to come online tomorrow, but it's possible I'll go for a hike with my Dad or so.

Have a wonderful day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

This is Lucy's post to us, today. It was in the 2017 thread:

quote:

Happy New Year, everyone. I have gotten all the Christmas decorations put away and the house put back together and cleaned. I spent quite a lot of time getting all of my rolls of ribbon gathered in one container and all the loose ends put back on the rolls.

I did a lot of cooking yesterday and today, zucchini lasagna with meat sauce and Korean BBQ pork steak were the main dishes with lots of sides.

I am caught up on my reading here and am glad to know that everyone is OK, and Mary is nearly over her cold.

This morning I noticed Blacky in a corner staring at my plants. I was concerned that maybe he was trying to eat them. Then I noticed a big moth fluttering against the wall and knew what he was up to. I caught the moth and tossed it outside, but I noticed it's wing tips ware kind of tattered. Blacky could have done that.

It's still warm here, in the 40's. Seems kind of weird.

Howard and I both were asleep before midnight last night. I was in bed reading and he was snoring at 11:00 and I was a goner soon after that.

Good Morning World! Brrrrrrr. . . it is still cold! It is 2 with a windchill of -15. I still have water. I am expecting a piano student this afternoon. I don't know if kids have school or not today. They were starting to show cancellations on TV last night, but our school district would probably not be on Cleveland's news channel. I am not sure what I will get into, today. I am still working with Ancestor pictures. I have one to frame, today and then I think I am ready to see if they will fit on the wall! LOL Lily seems to be better. My son called, yesterday! He is coming to visit on Saturday. I haven't seen him for 2 years!

Hi Lucy! I moved your post to this 2018 thread and I closed the 2017 thread. I am glad you have gotten your house put back together. It feels really good to have that done. It sounds like you had a very nice New Year. That is good that you saved that moth. I hope he is able to fly OK. Naughty Blacky! Of course all of my animals, except Lily, would do the same thing. I am glad it is still warm there. Please send some our way, but don't send ice.

Hi Firle! Your food on New Year's Eve sounds really good. I haven't had cheese fondue in many years. That is too bad that you didn't get any good deep conversation. That is good that you visited your ex-inlaws and that is was nice. And Yay for intelligent conversation with your father, his partner and partner's son! It won't be long until you are home! I know how good it feels to get home and into one's own bed. Bye, bye nephew, until we see your smileys again.

Hi Queeny! I hope you have a fun day and enjoy the movie! It looks like it may warm up this coming Sunday, but I am not sure yet. Are they ever sure? Joseph responds to his name, here. When he gets on the counter and I say "Joseph!" He looks up and then I say "Get down", and he gets down. I think that Jacob knows his name, too, but I am not sure about Hobbes. They all seem to come to "Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!"

Oh [sign in to see URL] is scary cold temperatures! I hope if your student comes they are careful about those roads. Those kind of temps means that the exhaust from cars will freeze on the roads!
And getting to see your son on [sign in to see URL] hon, that is WONDERFUL! emoticon

Firle, I'm glad you have been enjoying visiting your relatives but understand that you would be anxious to get home. Your young nephew sounds like a fun boy. I do hope you are able to find some intelligent conversation elsewhere, since you have only been seeing your family once a year. You will be heading home soon and will be back in your comfort zone.

Queeny, you sure have a lot of decorations to pack up and put away. I'm glad that Roger took care of outside and the tree for you. It was a lot nicer not having snow, wasn't it?

I hope you enjoyed the movie. I will see it in LA when my family buys it. In August of 2016 we sat one day and watched the whole series. I never warmed up to Princess Leah, I liked Han Solo and Luke Skywalker a lot more.

Susa, I am so happy to hear that your son will be visiting. You don't get to see him very often.

I hope you are keeping yourself warm and won't have to be going out shopping until it warms up a lot.

What are you hearing from Roy? I hope he is doing well.

 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon All of my cats have come when they were called. But then, I never had a lot of cats at one time, two in the house was the most we ever had at one time. I actually think that they associate their name with food, thinking that their name is the word for food. That's why several cats will come when you call kitty, kitty, kitty, they know you are going to feed them. BTW, I once had a calico cat named Kitty. She was a stray that left us with 5 kittens, then took off. We kept one of the kittens, had Rusty for 20 years.

Today I knocked myself out cleaning the floors with the Shark steam mop. It does a very good job but is very hard on the back, much harder than regular wet mopping.

Good Morning World! It is to warm up, today, to 17. I still haven't decided about shopping. If I weren't so cold it would be easier to decide. LOL I could go Sunday. I will probably wait until Sunday. It is to go up to 31 that day. Then on Monday is freezing rain.

I have heard from Roy. He called a few days ago and we had a long visit. He is not doing well. He did not sound good and he is having problems walking from one end of the house to the other and breathing at the same time. For doctor appointments, his wife drops him off at the door and then parks the car. Oh, and the worst is that 2 weeks ago he called the specialist for his breathing and heart and wanted to see the doctor and they gave him an appointment for January 9th. I think that is terrible! He is in an emergency situation. I am sure this weather is not helping him. If his humidity level in the house is as low as mine, 16%. that can't be helping him either. And the poor guy is worrying about bringing me newspapers for the dogs. I don't want him to worry about that. He has enough on his plate. I sure hope he does not catch a cold or get the flu.

Hi Lucy! I wrote an update, above, about Roy. Thank you for asking about him. I wasn't sure what to post after he called a few days ago. Yay for cleaning! I love it when I get wild and woolly and clean a lot! It feels so good to sit in a really clean house. I hope your back is OK

GOOD WEDNESDAY, Jan. 3rd MY FRIENDS!

It's still nice and sunny out, but the temperature is 19 F. Not bad, all things considered.
WOW! Yesterday was a really fun day. Had a fabulous dinner out, then went and saw, Star Wars: the last Jedi. AMAZING!
I laughed, I cried and I [sign in to see URL] truly moving.
We also stopped at PetCo and got a new cat condo and two new stratching posts for the cats, and also stopped at the Boise Co-Op for their fabulous Sourdough bread. Mom will love that we got [sign in to see URL] as I am having Spaghetti tonight, that will be wonderful with it!
Today, I am doing laundry and possibly changing cat boxes. The garbage truck does not come until Friday due to the holiday, but tomorrow I'm shopping with Mom. So we'll see...
Looking out my window, it is a "take a number and get in line" situation at my bird feeders.... emoticon
I hope you all have a great day....

SUSA...Goodness!

Well, I'm glad you got to see her!
I can't blame you on the shopping! Just remember that the weather people are rarely right. That freezing rain may come in earlier.
We are to get freezing rain tomorrow and Friday. Mom and I will decide on whether we are going shopping or not tomorrow.
As for Roy, did you tell him to get a humidifier and run it nonstop? It WOULD help. I run my in my room every night!
And [sign in to see URL] a cold or flu could easily kill him if his lungs are as bad as you say.

LUCY...Happy Bday dear!
quote:

It was a lot nicer not having snow, wasn't it?

YES IT IS! Although, hubby got to delay taking down the outside ones till like March!
We will be buying Star Wars: the last Jedi when it comes out. Have all the rest already.
Everyone loved Han! And as he said..."I know"' emoticon
I think you will enjoy [sign in to see URL] was a bit sad seeing Leia, knowing that Carrie Fisher had passed away, but that is life I guess. In the ending credits they pay tribute to her.

OH! That is good to know. I was thinking about getting one. But as I have a bad back all the time, I don't think I need something that will make it hurt more! emoticon

Hi Queeny! I am glad you had a really fun day, yesterday! I am glad the movie was amazing. I hope to see pictures of the new cat condo and the two new scratching posts. Yum for the Sourdough bread! I have talked to Roy about using a vaporizer before and he says that the moisture from them makes him worst. That doesn't sound right to me. I wonder if it makes him worse initially while it is breaking things up and he doesn't see it through long enough. But anyway, he won't try it again.

I am home from Walmart! I am glad I went, today, and got it done with. I am good now for another 2 or 3 weeks. I also went to the pharmacy and gave them my new prescription card information and got non-childproof lids for another year.

I am going to go change the girls potty box and take out the trash because tomorrow is supposed to be our coldest day yet, and today isn't as bad. I can always take out a little add on bag tomorrow when I get the paper.

Susa, thank you for the update on Roy. It saddens me that he is having so much trouble. It seems that a full time humidifier would do him good.

Queeny, the pads for the steam mop are rough textured to help scrub the floor. That makes it harder to push around than a wet mop. What I really like is that the floor dries much more quickly than with a wet mop.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. Sometimes sequels lose their dazzle.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Last night when I went out to Howard's shop to put frozen vegetables in the freezer Annie was with me and ran right to the bird feeder and stood looking up as it rocked back and forth. I'm not aware of any night feeding birds so think something furry was eating the seed. I just went out and added seed to the feeder and saw a poop that was rat or squirrel. Do squirrels feed at night?

I am changing the bed and washing everything I took off of it now. I keep a sheet on top of the bed all the time because Blacky sleeps on the bed a lot. Soooo, I have to run a lint brush over that every time I do the bed. That cat has short hair and I brush him often but he still leaves a big mess of hair where he sleeps. For that reason I keep a large bath sheet over the two computer chairs.

Howard has a friend over today. They are working on some machine in the shop. This guy's girlfriend went into a nursing home and he had to move his machine shop from her house. He sold some and brought some out here for Howard to store. He has since sold a couple more and taken them out of this shop. Now he comes out to work on one machine that needs repair before he can sell it. It is a computer aided lathe that has something wrong with the electronics.

Susa, I must have been fussing with the laundry or the bird feeder when you posted.

So Roy won't use a humidifier. There isn't anything you can do about that.

WOW...we had a bit of excitement. I heard the firetrucks go out early this morning, and they got mighty [sign in to see URL] 4 streets from ours, on the same cross [sign in to see URL] could see the smoke, I walked out to 1st [sign in to see URL] is our main cross street and I could see they had the road blocked off. I did not walk down, did not want to be in the way. But just heard on the 4 o'clock news that there was an elderly couple in there. They did not make it out. The old house was fully englufed when the fire department got there. Sad for their family...

Susa....I'll get some photos up soon.
I'm way behind again! LMAO

Hmmmm, well that is weird. But I guess we are all different. I also have a moist nebulizer with medicine that I can use when I get really bad!
But I think it's more like you [sign in to see URL]'s gets worse first. Because if I am already bad before I think to use mine, then it is [sign in to see URL] like I'm going cough myself to [sign in to see URL] it gets better. I try NOT to get bad before starting.
I hope he has something he can use to help...

Well, Howard decided he wanted to go out to dinner. I reminded him about Sunday and he said we would do both. So, off to get ready to be seen in public.

We haven't talked about doing anything. After cleaning the floors yesterday, I went to Costco late and brought home a pizza for dinner. We will either have the other half for lunch or dinner. I am not planning on cooking anything more than grilled cheese sandwiches. emoticon

What??? You mean Howard didn't want pizza or grilled cheese sandwiches for your birthday dinner. emoticon

Have fun at your birthday celebration tonight and also on Sunday. It is always fun to spread birthday celebrations over the course of a few days, don't you think? emoticon

Roy uses a moist nebulizer all the time. That is what they use on him in the hospital, too.

Lucy, that is weird about the animal on the poll. It seems here that it is raccoons at night, but their poop looks nothing like a squirrel's or rat's. I hope you enjoy dinner, tonight.

Hi Sue!

Here I am again, all left behind.

Miss T comes to "Miss T"

so ,, Lucy,, now what was it? oh Blacky sleeps on your bed,,, I am wondering at what age I can let Miss T onto our bed at night... I get up early and let her come for a couple of hours, ie. I am not into a deep sleep, but so scared that I could squash her...

yes, I think about Roy also, and pray for him, my hubby is not so good lately, wondering how much humidity or non of it would help him.. doctors just don`t seem to care nowadays.... he is not feeling at all well lately.

it is very cold and windy here, but no snow.. gales and lots of rain, mostly at night.

now I see Marjie joined , but can`t see a post from her...

Hey Marjie!! emoticon

Nanny, Marjie posted in the Word Association game thread, but I haven't seen any other posts from her in The Sunroom.

I hope she does come back, though. I posted something for her to see in the Word Association game thread because I noticed that she lives in Barrow in Furness. That is where my father, grandmother, and some other ancestors were born and died.

Here is what I said to her:

Hello bonmarjie. I hope you pop back in here and see my message.

I noticed that your location is Barrow-in-Furness. My father was born in Barrow-in Furness in 1914, and my grandmother was born there in 1885.

My father, his parents, and aunt, emigrated to the U.S. in 1922. One of my grandmother's brothers came to the U.S. in 1921.

I think that all of my grandmother's other siblings remained in Barrow-in-Furness or other parts of Lancashire.

My great great grandparents died in Barrow-in-Furness.

Wouldn't it be something if you and I were related to each other?

GOOD THURSDAY, [sign in to see URL] MY FRIENDS!

Today is Ladies day [sign in to see URL] Mom and I will do our grocery shopping, then we'll be off to see what else we can get in to!
Right now it's 20F going up to 31F and mostly cloudy. But at least the ice they were calling for is not coming. Rain coming in tomorrow instead.
I do hope where ever you all are, that you have a wonderful day.

Lucy....LOL That is so funny that Howard wanted to go to dinner! You are starting to sound like [sign in to see URL] out more than once a week!
Hope it was good!

Susa....It is very sad about that elderly couple.

Well that is adding water (and medicine) to your lungs. You would think that he would put it together that a humidifier does the same thing, without the medicine.

Nanny...I had cats on my bed since I can remember. And I never "let" [sign in to see URL] just decided they would get up there. Cats tend to move if you roll over on them...
If they were weeeeee [sign in to see URL] then no. And like my little [sign in to see URL] had her in a sided cat bed, right next to my own pillow when I first brought her in because she would just scream at night. I think she had a very tramatic experience. If she would wake, and be [sign in to see URL]'d just roll over so she could feel my breath on her fur and she'd go right back to sleep.
But my cats have always just had the run of the house. If they were healthy, they chose where to [sign in to see URL]
As for [sign in to see URL] it's their lungs for [sign in to see URL] helps. It moisturizes the air, this keeps ALL mucus membranes moist, so it helps the nose, throat, and lungs..
I've found that with the humidifier on the membranes in my nose/sinus' stays moist and I have way FEWER migraines.
Stay warm sweety....

HI SUE emoticon

Hi Nanny! I do not let any cats into my room at night, since Bob died. I did sleep with Bob. I have tried it with Joseph, but he wants to play all night and I want to sleep and so out he went! If I could trust Hobbes to not get into things, I would try Hobbes. He would be very cuddly to sleep with. However, I don't want to have to put a litter box in my room, like I had for Bob, and he would not have access to a box. I guess I will leave it the way it is. I do sleep with Piper, but I sleep with her crate. Lily is in her crate on the floor. I hope Marjie finds her way back. I am sorry that Jim is not doing so well. Very possibly a vaporizer would help him.

Hi Sue!

Hi Queeny! I hope that you have a fun day.

Again, it is very cold here. The high is to be 10, but the wind chill is the big problem. Over night tonight the wind chill is to be -22. The high, tomorrow is to be 4. All of the schools are closed. Garett and Kate went part of a day on Wednesday. I am to have 4 students today. I do not think that they should come. It is just too cold. I wrote to the mother, but she hasn't read my message, yet.

Here are a few pictures. The first on is my sweatshirt, today. I bought some new clothes this winter and this is one thing I bought. It is a Lily shirt!

Next is a picture I found of Roy on Facebook! It was taken this past summer at a wedding. I thought it was a really good picture.

This lady, is Roy's wife, Charil. She is a really nice person. I like her.

I just got ahold of my student's mother and told her not to come. She agreed, though I think they may have tried to come. I will see them next Thursday.

Hi Nanny,

I see in Marjie's profile she says that she is Scottish, but has lived in England for 50 years.

Not likely that she and I are related, but she lives in Barrow-in-Furness where my Dad, grandmother, and other ancestors were born and died. (My father, his parents, and aunt came to the U.S. in 1922, though.)

I wonder how Marjie ended up in Barrow-in-Furness.
