Baby dress

Yesterday, when I was hunting through a bin in my storage room, I found my father's baby gown. It is from September 1917. I would like to wash it, but I am not sure how. I have on hand "]Wrapture no rinse delicate wash". I could soak it in that and then carefully rinse it, even though it say no rinse. Or, I found =sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1514656656&sr=8-3&keywords=retro+clean]THIS on Amazon and I found it in a smaller size. What are your thoughts?

My other issue would be ironing it. Steam iron? How hot? I assume it is cotton.

The dress does not feel like it is rotting. Even though it is thin, it actually feels pretty sturdy.

Here are pictures of the dress and my father in it.

It is yellowed and I think that it would last longer if I was sure it was clean. I have been thinking of framing it, but I am not sure about that yet.

I really can't give you a good answer. I've no experience in that at all....
It seems that stuff you linked on might be better as it's specifically for vintage stuff...
But I am not sure......
If it were me, I'd frame it ....as is. Just to be safe.. emoticon

Thank you.

I am pretty sure I will wash it. If I frame it, I will have to sew it down and I am not sure I want to put holes in it. It would be safer to wrap it in cotton and put it in an archive bag, but I would like to look at it. I'll figure that. LOL

I did ordered that stuff on Amazon, but in a smaller quantity and less expensive. I also found a clear, PH neutral, garment bag for baby gowns and ordered that. It, also was not expensive!!! I already have a muslin hanger that I think will fit the dress. If I ever actually frame it, I will hang it in the frame with the hanger and probably in the garment bag. However, it would be better if the dress stays out of any sun and wall space is an issue for a frame that big.

I don't have any experience with that sort of thing. I only wanted to tell you that I think the photo of your dad is beautiful and that is what I would be hanging on the wall, if you haven't already.

I have that picture framed and ready to hang on the wall. I made my layout for the wall, today, but haven't done it yet. I need to pick another picture to frame, to balance the wall before I start putting nails in the wall.

Oh, that is an awesome find. I hope it all works out for you - cleaning and ironing it would be nice, of course.

Love the pic of your father. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Susa, I am not of any help either. I am glad that you found the info online on how to handle the dress of your father. Gee, I was thinking over a "hundred" year old dress! emoticon Very fragile and what a treasure. I understand why you would want to preserve it.
Yes, the picture of your father is adorable! emoticon Glad you are putting it up on your wall to see often! I found a picture of my grandmother's family in my mom's photo book and had some made. Many of my cousins did not have this picture and wanted copies. Grandma was maybe 15? in the picture. She was born in 1899. So it is probably about the same age as you father's picture. I need to frame the copy also. It is not as good as my mom's but at least I have one!!

Re:

Awwwww, Nanny. I actually sort of know how that feels. A cousin sent me a picture of my husband in December. I was very surprised! However, I did keep just a couple pictures of him when I got divorced. For you, you had not seen his picture in all of that time!

By the way, I decided to smell that dress to see if it smelled musty. It did not! I must have washed it a long time ago because it smelled faintly of laundry detergent. Now I am not sure I will wash it. I also found my muslin hanger and it fits in the dress. I may just spritz the creases on the dress with a little water to see if the creases relax. I also need to see if I got blood on the dress. Right after I tried the hanger in the dress, my hand felt wet and I looked at it an there was a cut with blood dripping. I don't know if I did that after I put the dress in the bag, or before I got it out.

Ummmm, the longer blood is in material the harder it is to remove.

I looked at the dress and there is no blood. I must have cut that finger right after I put the dress back in its bag.

I am thankful I don't have to get blood out of it. I have fought many battles with blood on things.
